Got my T-Bird back

I went for a run tonight. It was far and it wasn’t fast, but it was the first run I’ve been on in months. The stretches seem to be slowly working and the time on the foam roller is definitely having some kind of effect, but there were still twinges in the knee before I got back. I’ll try and get back into it slowly and I’ll definitely be going to get orthotics to try that out, but if I still get trouble it’ll be back again for another round of inspections.

Good to hear you’re back out there, months of stretching (and rollers!) aren’t much fun at all! Maybe give barefoot running some reading and consideration? I was having knee problems for the first half of last year (various suggestions of cause stemming from ITB/flat feet), took some time off and then built up to barefooting to change my running style and think it has been worthwhile. Haven’t been training heavily enough to be sure it has solved the problem, but hopefully this spring will tell me one way or the other.

ITB and flat feet, both sound very familiar. I’ve been contemplating the bare foot approach and a pair of those fancy feet glove things, I might give it a go. Even with the stretches the tightness isn’t easing off as much as I’d hoped and I even got the familiar niggle in the knee on Saturday. Harumph.

Try a pair of cheap aqua shoes, they do the job for roads, and try running proper barefoot as much as possible – but that might have to wait for better weather!

Those aqua shoes are much cheaper than the Merrells. I might have to give them a go at some point.
